Ep6 (full episode) -- Loose, Infected Implant is Saved, HOCL -- Dental Revolution: Biohacking the Mouth/Body Connection SEASON1
In this compelling clinical episode, we explore the profound impact of the oral microbiome on systemic health through the real-world case studies of two unique patients. First, we delve into the journey of Lucy, a 59-year-old who presented with bleeding gums, a heavily coated tongue, and long COVID symptoms that left her without a sense of taste or smell for over a year.
Adding to her complex medical history, Lucy had been relying on daily antacids (Pantoprazole) for 13 years to manage a gastric ulcer. Through comprehensive diagnostics—including a Bristle DNA oral health test, a Perio Monitor for inflammation, and salivary Nitric Oxide (NO) strips—we discovered a highly pathogenic bacterial environment and dangerously low Nitric Oxide levels in her mouth.
To combat this severe oral dysbiosis, we introduced a strict protocol focused on eliminating bad bacteria while preserving the good. By aggressively incorporating Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) rinses and daily tongue scraping, Lucy achieved incredible results within just three months: her bleeding gums completely stopped, her inflammation plummeted, and miraculously, her sense of taste and smell returned.
We also discuss how a weekend of using standard alcohol-based mouthwash temporarily derailed her progress, emphasizing why targeted prebiotic and probiotic care is essential for maintaining healthy bacteria.
The second half of the episode highlights Maxine, a patient of over 20 years who faced an acute infection threatening one of her dental implants. Faced with a highly mobile implant, active pus, and inflammation, standard dental procedure would normally dictate an extraction.
Instead, Maxine was given an HOCl solution and instructed to diligently irrigate the deep gum pockets daily using a syringe. Astonishingly, she eliminated the infection, reversing the failure and securing the implant to rock-solid stability without pain. Maxine’s story is a powerful testament to patient compliance and the healing power of proper microbial management.

THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF NITRIC OXIDE
Healthy oral bacteria and stomach acid are required to convert dietary nitrates into Nitric Oxide, a vital vasodilator that supports cardiovascular health, reduces inflammation, and regulates blood flow.
THE HIDDEN DANGER OF ANTACIDS
Chronic use of proton pump inhibitors (like Pantoprazole) lowers stomach acidity, which disrupts the digestive tract's ability to complete the necessary Nitric Oxide synthesis cycle.
HYPOCHLOROUS ACID (HOCL) THERAPY
HOCl is a safe, non-toxic rinse made from salt, water, and electricity that effectively targets pathogenic bacteria and biofilm without the harsh burning or tissue damage associated with traditional chemical mouthwashes.
AVOID ALCOHOL-BASED MOUTHWASHES
Conventional mouthwashes indiscriminately kill both beneficial and harmful bacteria, which can immediately drop Nitric Oxide production, cause loss of taste, and hinder the oral healing process.
THE "WEED AND FEED" APPROACH
True oral healing requires "weeding" out bad bugs through mechanical cleaning (tongue scraping) and HOCl rinses, followed by "planting and feeding" good bacteria using specialized prebiotics and probiotics.
REVERSING IMPLANT FAILURE
Dedicated home care using targeted HOCl irrigation deep into gum pockets can halt severe periodontal infections and potentially save loose, infected dental implants from surgical extraction.
SYSTEMIC HEALING
Restoring the oral microbiome does not just fix teeth and gums; it can dramatically reduce systemic inflammation and help resolve secondary systemic conditions, such as anosmia (loss of smell and taste) related to viral infections like COVID-19.

And she was in shock cuz she really was in shock when she said Look at this and she said she couldn't believe it. She said, "What's going on here? What's going on? I can't believe this."
Hi, my name is Maxine Gooden. I was very much afraid of dentists. I would say oral health was not initially for us as kids, it was kind of scary with the dentist that we had. He loved to drill our teeth because of cavities, even though I don't know how small they were. We always had fillings. So, I was really not a lover of dentists. I am a patient of Dr. Goodman here in Toronto, Canada. I have been a patient of hers for over 20 years. The lady that I used to work with recommended Dr. Goodman and when I went there,
I had filled out the form, you know, and I said, "I hate dentists." That's the word I used. I used hate. I underlined that word and she came out and personally came out and started talking to me about gentle care. I said, "Okay, well, I'll try you." And when she took me on as a patient, she was excellent. I could not do it, I don't know any of the work on my mouth if it wasn't for her. I'm a music lover. I sing in a gospel choir in the Toronto local area. I'm an aunt of three, caretaker of my mother right now who's in elder care. After the implant was done, it was all over. It's fine. I noticed that there was a little infection. It didn't hurt.
It was almost like a boil on my inner mouth. I went to the dentist just for flossing anyway. I told her there was this thing there and she right away got into I would say saving mode and she gave me this solution and to use it with my mouth and rinse it out and she was concerned I was going to lose the implant and I went ahead and I used the solution. I think I came back a week later. I used the solution and it's rock solid now.
That the inflammation went down. And she was in shock cuz she really was in shock when she said look at this I she said she couldn't believe it. She said what's going on here? What's going on? I can't believe this. And I said I don't know if it's just fine now. It's so she told me to use the solution every day which I do every day and I have a syringe and I work on that area. I do floss every day and um so far so good. No complaints. A few weeks ago I felt this bump in the inner part of my mouth. And I was like hmm something's going on.
So I came to the doctor's office Dr. Goodman's office and it was for cleaning at the same time and you discovered there was some pus inside of my gum area. So you recommended I um you cleaned it out and you gave me this wonderful liquid and I used it by your instruction and the pain was gone immediately. There was no inflammation and I cleaned it out and I came back a week later and you were amazed to know that everything was good and you've confirmed it that it is completely cleaned out but I must continue to use the product for another couple more weeks until and and to make sure that everything is cleaned out and continue to use it even thereafter.
And when you first came in that was mobile that means it was super loose like floating loose. And it did hurt too by the way. I should tell you it did hurt. And normally I would have said and I think I said to you that this implant's done. Yes it did. Right? You're going to need to extract it. You did say that and you were shocked to know that when it I was blown away to see it tighten up the way it did because it's rock solid now. Yeah and I don't feel any pain.
There's nothing there. I can clean it out. I use the the every time I eat after I eat, I I clean up the area as well as my other other parts and I go back and use the solution. Many times a day. Yes, I do. Many times a day. You can't let yourself win this war. I'm going to win this war. and this is so miraculous. We've got to appreciate it and stick with it, right?
Thank you, doctor. Don't let up because you let up, that's what those bugs are waiting for. right. No, I thank you a lot because I don't want any more extractions. Thank you. Thank you. Lord, I give you thanks. My rock and salvation, in you I trust. The refuge and strength, strong armor of defense. Oh, Lord, I give you thanks.
