The HOCL Dentist has been a dental rebel all her career

Dr. Janice R. Goodman is dentistry’s rebel insider — a lifelong champion for patients and a fearless breaker of the profession’s slow-moving norms since 1979. While others cling to tradition, she runs outside the box and pulls the future forward.
HOCl Dentist
Dr. Goodman, as the HOCl Dentist, is now dedicating herself to pioneering the use of HOCl, and telling the world about the remarkable and revolutionary power of safe, natural, environmentally-friendly HOCl to heal and repair the mouth and the entire body. She shares her awareness of the mouth/body connection through her “Dental Revolution: Biohacking the Mouth/Body Connection” video documentary series.

Whitening rebel
By the late 1970s, at the beginning of her career, the dental establishment was still warning against the hazards of vital teeth bleaching. Goodman ignored the hand-wringing and backed safe, effective whitening techniques and encouraged her friend and colleague, Dr. Robert Ibsen, who went on to create DenMat and Rembrandt whitening. Now, vital bleaching is practically a global ritual — hundreds of millions whiten, safely, in part, thanks to the path Dr. Goodman helped clear.
Clear aligner rebel
In the 1980s, when metal braces were the only game in town, Goodman saw the potential of clear aligners from mentors Dann Schwartz, Drs. Sheridan and Hilliard— and helped ignite a revolution. She put the first resin attachments to aid moving teeth with plastic -- something still used today. She lectured and taught other dentists Minor Tooth Movement. Now, tens of millions of people are fixing their smile without a trace of metal.
Oral myofunctional therapy
In the 2010s, Dr. Goodman threw her weight behind oral myofunctional therapy — a then-ignored, now fast-growing field using muscle retraining to improve oral and facial function. Enlightened by her visionary peers, especially Joy and Mark Moeller, Goodman helped drag myofunctional therapy out of obscurity in Canada. Today, MFT is mainstream — and changing millions of lives.
Epigenetic functional appliances
She worked with Drs. Theodore Belfor and Darick Nordstrom on promoting epigenetic, functional appliances, and incorporating teams to provide treatment including osteopathy with MYO therapy. Working together across disciplines leads to better results to improve quality of life and help people achieve their potential.
Dr. Goodman doesn’t just follow the science — since 1999 she has been on the editorial Board of Oral Health Dental Journal, helping to channel the future.
