Chapter 28-- HOW DO YOU SPOT COUNTERFEIT HOCL? -- Pioneer of HOCL Science with Jeffrey F. Williams

Yeah, it's a good point. I think the fact that it is water like and mostly water and yet has a value that enables companies to make it, put it in bottles and sell it. Counterfeit products are likely to be a problem, particularly in the developing world. We have a goal of developing a very simple dipstick test that will enable a user to look at the dipstick. It will have a couple of different color points on it or pads on it. 

 

We think that's the way to go to enable people to be sure that what's coming out of the bottle is the right product at the right pH and the right concentration. That's a research project that I hope we'll be able to put into effect in the near future.

 

There are two characteristics of a real product. It has to have the right pH. If it's not at the right pH, it's not HOCl. And then it has to have a concentration that's sensible for the use. And obviously, that can't be just a few PPM. It's going to be some tens of PPM to 100 PPM or more.

 

We think that can be displayed in a simple dipstick. No one needs to understand chemistry. They simply need to put that dipstick in and it will have the color sensitivities that tell the user, yep, it's got the right pH, it's got the right concentration. It's good stuff and I can use it.
